23-26 March 2017
Supporters and participants in the literary life will once again have the opportunity to visit international book fairs and to view national and publishing house presentations of the contemporary form of book culture from mid-March. This year, the notional book fair year will once again be opened in Leipzig. The Leipzig book festival, with its significant orientation towards reading and cultural discussion, is the second most important event of its kind in the German-speaking world after Frankfurt. Its official opening will take place on 22nd March 2017.
Within the context of other international fairs, the Leipziger Buchmesse stands out thanks to its emphasis on a rich cultural program. This not only takes place at the exhibition centre in the form of a series of cultural events and authorial readings, but also at the most varied locations throughout the entire city within the framework of an event tellingly named Leipzig reads. The book fair is now traditionally accompanied by the Manga Comic-con which attracts countless fans of this sub-culture and at the same time points to yet another aspect of the Leipzig book fair’s openness in relation to book culture and reader groups.
